SeaWorld to End Orca Breeding Program

SeaWorld CaresBig, huge, news from SeaWorld today.

CEO Joel Manby submitted an op-ed to the Los Angeles Times indicating SeaWorld will end its orca breeding program this year.  Manby’s piece opens with a reminder that when the SeaWorld program began, orcas were not the beloved animals they are today.  The improved orca image is in large part due to SeaWorld efforts over the years.  With an end to breeding programs, the current SeaWorld orcas will be the last SeaWorld orcas.

“For as long as they live, the orcas at SeaWorld will stay in our parks. They’ll continue to receive the highest-quality care, based on the latest advances in marine veterinary medicine, science and zoological best practices.”
